A Warm Welcome from the Lady Captain
It is an honour, privilege and responsibility to be Lady Captain at Mapperley. I actually had a ‘warm up’ year in 2020 but accepted the offer of continuing in 2021 as I feel that due to COVID I only had the opportunity to do half a job.
I remember a previous Lady Captain saying that being Lady Captain is very similar to being Doctor Who. Every Doctor morphs into a different body but basically their job is more or less the same. I can’t actually be anyone but me but will endeavour to continue the work of past captains, maintain and respect traditions but put my own mark on things. I definitely want to have fun! It’s really important that we move the club and the ladies’ section forward as it’s a competitive world we live in. We need to retain the membership we have but also attract new members and support them. I am particularly passionate about breaking down the barriers which discourage women from taking up golf. It’s also important the club becomes part of the local community and we need to let people know how good we are. I’ve played at Mapperley since 1994 and it’s always been such a welcoming and supportive place.
The Captains’ Charity is ‘Maggie’s Centre’ at the City Hospital which survives on charitable donations and fundraising. It provides emotional support for cancer sufferers and their friends/families and organises lots of activities and group sessions to make life easier. I have visited and it’s an amazing place so please help us raise as much money as possible Lady Captain's Charity Mapperley Golf Club.
In my own sporting career I was always a team player and I think golf should be like that. The nice thing about teamwork is that you always have others on your side. I consider everyone at Mapperley to be part of a team whatever our role within the club or our golfing ability.
I look forward to a productive, positive year full of fun and good golf.

Welcome to the Ladies Section
We have a friendly and active Ladies Section and we run a wide selection of club competitions and team matches against other local clubs, not to mention Social Events too. If you wish to join us and learn to play golf, Mapperley Golf Club is the place to start.
We have a dedicated New Ladies page containing information for new and prospective lady members, including details of monthly meetups where you can have a go at playing golf and meet some of our members in an informal setting.
We look forward to you contacting our Ladies Secretary, Susan Bunting, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
We have Ladies 18 hole and 9 hole Competitions with reserved tee times every Tuesday. If you are unable to play on the Tuesday you can usually enter on the previous Saturday or Sunday. During the winter the emphasis is more on fun competitions.
There are mixed competitions on Sundays about once a month all year and 'Open to All' (men and ladies) competitions throughout the summer on Thursdays most weeks and on Sundays about twice a month. See the Ladies Competition Diary for a list of forthcoming Ladies competitions.
We enter teams in the Nottinghamshire Ladies Silver League and Bronze League, Ladies and Mixed Inter-club knockouts and the Ladies Winter League. We also play a few friendly matches. See the Ladies Match Diary for a list of forthcoming matches.
We have Ladies Singles, Ladies Foursomes and Mixed Foursomes knockout competitions through the summer culminating on Finals Day in September. See Ladies Knockouts for more details.
