So far this winter we have been very fortunate to have had such a mild spell of weather with very few ground frosts, however on the few occasions we have been affected by slippery conditions underfoot it has been brought to our attention that a number of members have lost their footing on the winter mats.
As you will be aware we are fortunate to have some of the largest and best winter teeing areas in the county, using the latest technology in artificial grass. However these surfaces do get a lot of usage and during a winter they do get very compacted with dirt and mud off golfers shoes which makes traction in frosty conditions much more difficult.
The greenstaff will continue to try and maintain the mats and make them as playable as possible but IN VERY FROSTY CONDITIONS we have introduced a WINTER RULE where a player may tee up anywhere within two club lengths behind the pots if they feel it necessary not to stand on the mat, as of 22 December 2016.
The professional staff are also aware that many of our members may not be wearing golf shoes with the appropriate winter spikes and soles for play at this time of year. They will therefore be offering a free spike check for all members with advice on appropriate spikes so please take advantage and drop your shoes into the pro shop for your free check and stay upright and safe in 2017.
