Multi-tee competitions

Appendix N: Multi-tee Competitions

To provide equity when competitors are playing from 2 or more different sets of tees, adjustments are made to the Playing Handicaps of some players as shown in the examples below.

The adjustments reflect the difference in the scores that would be returned when “Playing to Handicap” and depend on the format being played. At Mapperley this generally results in Women receiving extra strokes in Medals and Texas Scrambles, and Men receiving extra strokes in Stablefords.

The adjustments are used solely to determine competition results and do not affect the player’s Scoring Record or Handicap Index calculation.

N1: Medal, Gross Score & Maximum Score (18 hole)

A player competing from a set of tees with a higher Course Rating receives additional strokes equal to the difference in Course Ratings:

Playing Handicap  =  [ Course Handicap   X   Handicap Allowance ]  +  Difference in Course Ratings

Men Women (Red) Women (Yellow) Women (Yellow Alt)
      C.R.         C.R.     + strokes      C.R.   + strokes    C.R.   + strokes
 White 71.2 72.4 + 1.2 75.1 + 3.9

N2: Medal, Gross Score & Maximum Score (9 hole)

N3: Stableford & Par/Bogey (18 hole)

The number of stableford points required to play to Handicap is calculated for each set of tees and rounded to the nearest whole number.

Points required to play to Course Handicap   =    36   -   [ Course Rating  -  Par ]

A player playing from a set of tees requiring a lower number of points to play to Course Handicap will receive additional strokes equal to the difference in the number of points required to play to Course Handicap.

Playing Handicap = [Course Handicap  X  Handicap Allowance]  +  Difference in points required

Men's Tees     Women's Tees     Extra strokes
Tees  C.R.    Par    Pts req    Tees   C.R.     Par    Pts req      Men      Women

 Red  66.9 70 39  Red 72.4 74 38  + 1

  • In Team stableford  and par/bogey competitions where Men and Women play their own ball, players use the pars on the scorecard appropriate to their gender.

  • In Team stableford and par/bogey competitions where Men and Women use the same ball (foursomes and greensomes), use of the Women’s pars is recommended.

N4: Stableford & Par/Bogey (9 hole)

No adjustment is required. It is accounted for in the calculation of 9 hole Course Handicaps.

N5: Texas Scramble (18 hole)

The number of extra strokes received by each player in an 18 hole Texas Scramble is equal to the number of extra strokes they would receive in an 18 hole medal (see Table N1), divided by the number of players in the team.

Foursomes & Greensomes

In Foursomes and Greensomes adjustments are first calculated for each player in accordance with N1 (medals) or N3 (stablefords). The adjustment for the pair is 50% of the combined adjustments as shown in Tables N7, N8 and N9:
