As the new season approaches, a little update on the dark months of the year.
Tim follows in the footsteps of his brother
This year’s Notts PGA AGM was on 7th March and I was elected to take over from my brother Jon as Captain of the Notts PGA for 2017 and 2018. We became not only the first brothers to have the honour but the first in consecutive years, a record which may stand for a considerable time.
The AGM was followed by the President’s Cup which is the opening PGA event of our season played round the par 3 course at Norwood Park. In winning the opening event of the season I went on to break my own course record by one shot with a 5 under par 49 (see photo).
On the 19th March I took two teams to Vilamoura, Portugal to represent Mapperley Golf Club in the Nottinghamshire PGA overseas Pro-Am series and the Leicestershire PGA overseas Pro-Am series.
The Nottinghamshire event was played over the courses of Val De Lobo Ocean, Oceanica Faldo, Quinta South and Vilamoura Old Course. I finished 4th in the professional order of merit with scores of 67, 74, 72, 67 and the team consisting of myself and 3 members of Mapperley Golf Club finished 5th in the overall team order of merit.
The Leicestershire event was over the courses of Val De Lobo Ocean, Oceanica Faldo, Vilamoura Old Course and Larranjal. I finished 2nd in the professional order of merit with scores of 69, 73, 68, 71 and the team finished 10th overall.
A great performance over the two events for the Club.
What does 2017 have in store?
This year I am looking forward to a full schedule throughout Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire PGA events as well as Midland and National PGA events.
I am also looking forward to defending my Notts PGA strokeplay title in June at Coxmoor Golf Club and will keep you updated on this and other events through the year.
On Sunday 2nd April we are running the Mapperley Professional's Golf Day, which will be a Texas Scramble (teams of 4, any combination). The entry sheet is available in the Clubhouse and your support would be really appreciated, So my thanks in anticipation of a full field and a great day.
