Captains' Charity Day 2016 - sunshine, golf, fundraising and a huge star visits Mapperley

General Club Noticeboard : Captains' Charity Day 2016 - sunshine, golf, fundraising and a huge star visits Mapperley

This year's event was a great success, with more than 160 players from as far afield as the Wirral competing in support of the Captain's charities - Little People UK (http://littlepeopleuk.org) and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance (www.ambucopter.org.uk). All enjoyed the challenge presented by our hidden gem of a course. John Harrison's of Lowdham generously supplied a Peugeot car in case of a hole-in-one. Sadly this wasn't to be, but there were plenty of other prizes for the winning teams.

In the evening, golfers and guests thronged the club for the prize presentation, disco and a terrific charity auction - with some fifty lots donated by individuals and businesses across the country. The evening was made all the more special by a visit from Warwick Davis and his wife, Sammy. You may know Warwick as Professor Flitwick, Willow or a myriad other roles on stage and screen. Our Captain, Paul Ewart, knows Warwick as a friend and Patron of Little People UK. Sammy is Chair of the charity. Warwick spoke movingly of the important work that Little People UK does and thanked everyone for their support - as well as posing for lots of selfies, chatting and signing autographs for a couple of hours.
